Cal Signs Talented Four-Man Class
Incoming Class Highlighted By 2022 Junior Player Of The Year, Three All-Americans
BERKELEY – The California men's golf program signed four future Golden Bears to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf
Walter Chun announced. The impressive quartet of Sihao Cong (Irvine, Calif.), Ethan Fang (Plano, Texas), Eric Lee (Fullerton, Calif.) and Tyler Lee (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) will arrive on campus ahead of the 2023-24 season next year.
"In my opinion, signing Sihao, Ethan, Eric and Tyler to National Letters of Intent will make this the top-ranked 2023 recruiting class in the country," Chun said. "I know what these young men are capable of, how hard they work, how high their ceilings are and how much they want to compete for a national championship. We're fortunate to have signed these four quality young men, and the Cal Golf community will look forward to their arrival to campus next August."
Highlighting the Bears' incoming signees are Eric Lee and Fang, who are currently ranked No. 1 and 3 by Golfweek in the 2023 class. Lee was named the 2022 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rolex Player of the Year last week, becoming the first boys junior from the state of California to earn the honor since 2010. He did not finish outside the top 10 in seven national junior golf events to end the season. Fang, a 2022 AJGA second team All-American, is also ranked No. 22 in the AJGA Rolex rankings.
Cong was a 2021 AJGA Rolex second team All-American and impressed with a fifth-place finish at the 2021 AJGA Junior Players Championship while Tyler Lee, the 2022 Metropolitan Golf Association Junior Player of the Year, is currently a top-300 golfer in the AJGA Rolex rankings at No. 291.
