Allen (Los Angeles Chargers), Jackson And Mekari (Baltimore) Secure Playoff Spots

Three former Cal football players – Keenan Allen (Los Angeles Chargers), DeSean Jackson and Patrick Mekari (Baltimore) – were on teams that secured spots in the NFL Playoffs with victories in Week 16. Allen had the top performance of the trio with season highs in both receptions (11) and yards receiving (104) in the Chargers' 20-3 win at Indianapolis that was their third in a row. Jackson and Mekari both played off the bench in the Ravens' 17-9 home victory over the Falcons.

The number of former Cal players on active rosters who have clinched a spot in the NFL Playoffs rose to five with the trio joining Bryan Anger (Dallas) and Camryn Bynum (Minnesota). Ian Bunting (Dallas) and Richard Rodgers II (Los Angeles Chargers) are also on injured reserve lists for playoff teams.

Marvin Jones Jr. is also on the active roster for a Jacksonville squad currently in an NFL Playoff spot with two games remaining but yet to clinch, while Cameron Goode (Miami), Patrick Laird (Tampa Bay) and Davis Webb (New York Giants) are practice squad members of teams that would be in the NFL Playoffs if the season were to end today. Additionally, four former Cal players – Austin Clark (Miami, No. 7 NFC), Ron Rivera (Washington, No. 7 NFC), Vincent Rivera (Washington, No. 7 NFC) and Richard Rodgers (Washington, No. 7 NFC) – are on coaching staffs of teams currently in playoff spots but yet to clinch.

Others on active rosters of teams still in contention for one of seven playoff spots in each conference with two games remaining along with their current playoff position include Jake Curhan (Seattle, NFC No. 8), Ashtyn Davis (New York Jets, AFC No. 9), Jared Goff (Detroit, NFC, No. 9), Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay, NFC No. 10), Tyson Alualu (Pittsburgh, AFC No. 11) and Cameron Jordan (New Orleans, NFC No. 12). Chase Garbers (Las Vegas, AFC No. 12) is on the practice squad of a Raiders' squad that has yet to be eliminated from playoff contention.
