Cal Set For Weekend Series With No. 23 Oregon State

BERKELEY -- California returns to Berkeley and continues Pac-12 Conference play with a three-game weekend set against No. 23 Oregon State at Levine-Fricke Field. The Bears are honoring legendary former head coach and Cal Hall of Famer, Diane Ninemire, over the course of the weekend clash.  

The Bears (21-12) won one of three at No. 12 Oregon last weekend, but are 3-3 in conference play after winning the series against then-No.7 Washington, their first time taking a series from the Huskies since the 2015 season. The Beavers (25-8) took two of three against Stanford last weekend after getting swept by Arizona State in Tempe during the opening weekend of conference action.

 HOW TO FOLLOW  QUICK HITS
  • Cal is 88-45 all-time against Oregon State, but the Beavers won the most recent matchup last season, 4-3 on March 21, 2021 in Corvallis. The Bears last win against Oregon State came on March 20, 2021, a 2-0 victory at Kelly Field in Corvallis. Cal last won the season series with Oregon State in 2017.
  • California is 3-3 in Pac-12 play after a series win over then-No. 7 Washington at Levine-Fricke Field March 18-20 and winning one of three at No. 12 Oregon last weekend. The series win over the Huskies was Cal's first since 2015.
  • Makena Smith is third the Pac-12 with a .466 batting average and is fifth in both slugging percentage (.904) and on base percentage (.534).
  • Smith has recorded a hit in 22 of 26 games played this season and is tied for seventh in the conference with nine home runs. She is second on the team with 26 RBI.
  • Tatum Anzaldo has been swinging a hot bat all season and leads the conference in hits with 50, seven more than any other player. Anzaldo is hitting .427 on the season and is currently riding a seven-game hit streak.
  • Acacia Anders was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on March 21 after hitting two home runs against UW, including a walk off shot on Saturday to secure Cal's first win over Washington since the 2016 season.
  • Sona Halajian has been the definition of a two-way player all season. She is tied for the conference lead with 13 wins in the circle and is third on the team with a .391 batting average while sitting tied for third in the Pac-12 with 11 home runs.
  • Halajian has smashed a home run in each of the last four games.
