Showcase Wraps Up Promising Spring Ball
Lots Of Optimism Around Golden Bears Heading Into 2022
BERKELEY – Travers Family Head Football Coach
Justin Wilcox liked what he saw at the Cal Football Spring Showcase on a sun-splashed spring afternoon at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium. "Incredible" was the first word from Wilcox at his press conference when asked about the event that draw an enthusiastic crowd of Cal football fans.
"It's just been so long since we've been able to do something like this," Wilcox continued. "To get that many people here, the excitement from the fans, we had a ton of alumni. It's awesome. The energy here today was incredible … It was a great day."
Cal football legends including former NFL players Lorenzo Alexander and
DeSean Jackson, as well Kevin Moen and long-time team radio announcer Joe Starkey were in attendance, with Moen and Starkey on-hand to celebrate the upcoming 125th Big Game as well as the 40th anniversary of The Play in 2022. Moen finished off the five-lateral kick return through the Stanford Band that lifted Cal to a victory that day, while Starkey made the radio call of arguably the most iconic play in the history of college football.
The admission-free event began with a chance for season-ticket holders to select their seats for the 2022 season and also included a youth combine that was one of many fun activities for kids, a food and beer garden, and the team's scrimmage before finally concluding with an on-field autograph session and meet and greet with Cal players and coaches.
