Smith Homer Not Enough In Game Two

No. 6 Bruins Clinch Series With Victory

LOS ANGELES – California got a 3-run home run from Makena Smith, her 13th of the season, but it wasn't enough in a 10-4 loss to No. 6 UCLA as the Bruins clinched the series on Friday night at Easton Stadium.

The Bears (28-26-1, 8-15 Pac-12) got two hits from Smith, and Amani Bradley came through with an RBI single in the defeat. The Bruins improved to 42-8 overall and 18-5 in Pac-12 play with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After UCLA got a run on a pair of hits in the home first, Cal answered in a big way in the second, taking its first lead of the series, 3-1, on a 3-run bomb to left from Smith.

The Bruins had an answer of their own in the bottom half, plating six runs on five hits to take a 7-3 lead into the third. The Bears continued to battle as they've done all season, however, making it 7-4 on an RBI single off the bat of Bradley to score pinch-runner Diamond Holland, cutting the deficit to a three-run ballgame.

UCLA added to their lead in the home fourth, scoring two runs behind three hits and it was 9-4 going to the fifth frame, before the Bruins added one more in the fifth.

UP NEXT

The Bears and Bruins wrap up the series on Saturday, May 14 with first pitch set for 2 pm PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
