Sixth-Year Linebacker Passed 300 Career Tackles Before Suffering Season-Ending Injury
BERKELEY – California sixth-year linebacker
Jackson Sirmon was named to the midseason watch list for the Lombardi Awardâ„¢ on Tuesday. The Lombardi Awardâ„¢ goes annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability.
The selection criteria allow for linemen setting up no further than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball at the time of snap and linebackers setting up no further than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage to be eligible for the honor.

Jackson Sirmon, ILB, 6-2, 240, Sr., 6th Season Overall/2nd Season At Cal (Brentwood, TN/Washington/Brentwood Academy/Loyola HS)
– Played in 51 games with starts in all 34 contests possible over the last four campaigns of his first six seasons spanning four campaigns at Washington (2018-21) and two at Cal (2022-23)
– Compiled career totals of 301 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss (-42 yards), 4.5 sacks (-22 yards), two interceptions that he returned 21 yards, seven pass breakups, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 37 fumble recovery yards, one fumble recovery touchdown, one quarterback hurry and one safety, while also rushing twice on fake punts for six yards and picking up first downs on each occasion
– Collegiate career ended when he suffered a season-ending injury in a home game against Oregon State on Oct. 7, 2023
– 2023 Preseason All-American fourth team (Athlon, Phil Steele, Pro Football Focus) and All-Pac-12 first team (Athlon, Pac-12 Media, Phil Steele, Pro Football Focus) selection, while he was named to watch lists prior to the 2023 campaign for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Butkus Award, Lombardi Award and Senior Bowl

– Contributed 49 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss (-14 yards), 1.0 sack (-10 yards), two pass breakups, one quarterback hurry, a career-high-tying one forced fumble and a career-high-tying one fumble recovery in his first six contests of 2023 before the season-ending injury
– A first-team All-Pac-12 pick in a vote of the league's coaches, as well as of the Associated Press and Pro Football Focus as a 2022 junior when he started all 12 games and led Cal with a career-high 104 tackles, while adding career highs of 6.0 tackles for loss (-18 yards), 3.5 sacks (-12 yards), three pass breakups, 37 fumble recovery yards and one fumble recovery touchdown, as well as a career-high-tying one forced fumble
