CORVALLIS, Ore. – The California men's soccer team lost to Oregon State, 1-0, in a Pac-12 Conference game on Sunday at Lorenz Field.
Â
The Golden Bears' record stands at 6-5-3 (2-1-3 Pac-12). The Beavers are 6-5-3 (3-1-3).
Along with a 2-1 victory at Washington on Thursday, Cal went 1-1 on its trip to the Pacific Northwest.
Â
"Tactically, defensively, there were some things that took us too long to solve and that hurt us a little bit," Cal head coach
Leonard Griffin said. "We did enough to get out of there with a point, but the guy who scored, credit to him. He hit a fantastic shot. Sometimes that's the way it goes. We're disappointed not to get out of there with a point. Splitting on a road trip is not the end of the world, and I think we have a lot to play for."
Â
Oregon State took its lead when Arnau Farnos scored in the 19th minute.
Â
In the 69th minute, Oregon State defender Nicklas Lund was shown a red card after a dangerous foul. Lund was also red carded in the Sept. 14 game between the Bears and the Beavers in Berkeley.
Â
After the red card, Cal rattled off five shots after previously recording just one.
Nate Carrasco tested Oregon State goalkeeper Luis Castillo in the 84th minute, but the Beaver made the save. In the 88th minute,
Adrian Guzman put another shot on goal, but Castillo saved that as well. Forward
Arik Duncan had Cal's last chance, but his shot with 12 seconds left went wide.
Â
Cal goalkeeper
Zack Andoh made six saves.
Â
The Bears next play host to No. 17 Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 29, in the first game of this season's Big Clasico.
