Bears Close Fall Slate At Cal Poly Invitational
Cal Seeks Strong Finish To Impressive Fall Campaign
CARMEL – The California men's golf team will conclude its 2023 fall season at the Cal Poly Invitational, hosted by the Mustangs at The Preserve Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will cap a five-event fall slate for the Golden Bears, who own national rankings of 18th (Golf Channel) and 23rd (Golfweek).
Cal will send six golfers to the invitational, led by redshirt junior
Tony Chen, who most recently finished sixth individually at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax. The Bears won the MacKenzie in dominant fashion with a 51-under-par performance; the win was one of three top-three finishes in stroke-play events by the team so far this season.
The four other Bears included in the lineup –
Ethan Fang,
Ethan Chung,
Nathan Wang and
Charlie Berridge –
have all posted at least one top-25 individual finish this fall. Wang was Cal's low golfer at the MacKenzie, taking third individually at 15-under-par. Fellow sophomore
Daniel Heo will also compete in the Cal Poly Invitational as an individual.
