Field Hockey Earns Multiple All-Conference Honors

4 Golden Bears Were Honored By The America East On Wednesday

BERKELEY – The California field hockey team had four student-athletes earn America East All-Conference awards as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. The Golden Bears had two athletes earn all-conference honors.

Since 1980 Cal has had at least two athletes earn all-conference honors each season. That streak continues with Bente Baekers and Daniella Rhodes earning America East First-Team honors.

This is the fifth career all-conference honor for Baekers. She earned First-Team All-Big Ten in 2019, 2021, and 2022 and second-team honors in spring 2021. The forward from Rijswijk, Netherlands, leads the Golden Bears with 37 points on 16 goals and five assists. She and teammate Rhodes are tied for sixth most in the nation and tops in the America East in goals per game, averaging 1.0 per contest. Baekers has five multi-goal games this season and has scored in five straight matches and 11 of the last 12.

Rhodes also adds to her extensive collection of all-conference accolades. The graduate transfer from Liberty earned All-Big East First Team three times and second-team honors in 2023. Rhodes is second on the Bears with 34 points on 15 goals and four assists. After being held scoreless in the first three matches, Rhodes has scored in 10 of the last 13 matches, including a four-goal outburst against Stonehill on Sept. 9. She has scored in five straight matches for the Bears and is currently tied with Baekers for tops in the conference in goals per game.

Seniors Kiki de Bruijne and Claire Hind were named to the AE All-Academic Team. This is the second all-academic honor for de Bruijne; the psychology major boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.86. It is the first honor for Hind, a molecular and cell biology major with a 3.79 GPA.

The Bears return to action on Thursday at 9 a.m. PT when they take on fifth-seeded Vermont in the opening round of the America East Tournament on the Wicked Blue Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.
