STANFORD- The California women's soccer team fell to No. 3 Stanford 4-0 Friday night in the final match of the regular season.
Suffering their third-straight loss, the Golden Bears fall to 7-6-6 overall and finish their final Pac-12 season tied for fifth place with a record of 4-3-4.They will now wait for Monday's NCAA Selection show to see if their season will continue. The Bears finish above .500 for the third-straight year but earned a program-record six ties along the way.
Cal got off a number of good looks in the match taking 12 shots and placing six on frame but suffered it's third-straight shutout at the hands of the undefeated Cardinal. Stanford scored a pair in each half to tie their season high. The Cardinal's Jasmine Aikey recorded a hat trick scoring the first goal of the match in the 19th minute and the final two in the 58th and 60th.
For the third time this season sophomore goalkeeper
Teagan Wy matched her career high with eight saves. Facing 18 total shots in the contest, Wy made a number of highlight plays and broke up several of Stanford's strong scoring opportunities. She finishes the regular season with 86 total saves which ties her former teammate
Angelina Anderson (2019) for the second most in program history in a single season. Wy has played and started in all 19 matches this season for the Bears.
With eight minutes to go in the match, Wy was pulled for senior
Makena Smith giving the two-sport student-athlete a well-deserved send off in what may have been her final contest as a Bear.
On the offensive end the usual suspects of junior forwards
Karlie Lema and
Ari Manrique led the team with three shots apiece and each placed one on frame.
The 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship bracket will be announced this Monday at 1 p.m. via the selection show on NCAA.com.
