BERKELEY – The California football team returns home for the final time in 2023 with a 1 p.m. PDT kickoff Saturday vs. Washington State at California Memorial Stadium. The Golden Bears (3-6, 1-5 Pac-12) and Cougars (4-5, 1-5) will meet for the 84th time in history.

ABOUT THE SERIES
– Saturday will be the 84th all-time meeting between California and Washington State 
– The Bears lead the series 48-30-5. The Cougars have taken three of the last five matchups, but Cal has won 12 of the last 17
– The two teams first met on Oct. 25, 1919 with Cal coming out on top, 14-0. One of the most memorable Golden Bear wins was a 37-3 victory over No. 8 Washington State in 2017

RUSHING THINGS  
– Cal is third in the Pac-12 and 15th nationally with 22 rushing touchdowns. The school record for rushing touchdowns in a season is 34 in 1951
– The Bears are averaging  190.3 yards rushing per game (4th Pac-12, 27th NCAA) the most since putting up 235.2 per game in 2005 and more than doubling the 96.6 average in 2022
– Jaydn Ott is among Pac-12 and national leaders in rushing, including rushing yards per game (106.1 ypg, #1 Pac-12, #10 NCAA), rushing yards (849, #2 Pac-12, #21 NCAA), rush yards per carry (5.8, #6 Pac-12, #33 NCAA), rushing TDs (9, #3 Pac-12, #19 NCAA), all-purpose yards per game (118.6 ypg, #5 Pac-12, #26 NCAA) and total touchdowns (10, #1T Pac-12, #18 NCAA)
– Ott is re-writing the Cal record books with 1,744 yards rushing through his first 20 games as a Golden Bear, the most in program history through 20 career games. J.J. Arrington had 1,713 in his first 20 games, while Marshawn Lynch (1,557), Joe Igbor (1,465) and Jahvid Best (1,304) round out the top five
– Ott has 1,746 yards rushing in his career (2,191 all-purpose yards) and is looking to become Cal's first 1,000-yard single-season rusher this year since Patrick Laird in 2017 (1,127). Needing 151 yards, Ott would be the 19th player in Cal history to reach the milestone

TAKE IT AWAY 
– Cal is second in the Pac-12 and is tied for 19th in the NCAA with 17 turnovers gained
– The Bears top the conference and are tied for fifth nationally in fumbles recovered (9), while sitting tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with eight interceptions 
– Kaleb Elarms-Orr is second in the Pac-12 with 9.0 tackles per game (#27 NCAA)
– Patrick McMorris is tied for first in the Pac-12 and tied for eighth nationally with two fumbles recovered

– Cal is set to honor 26 seniors in their final game at CMS on Saturday, including Ender Aguilar, Asher Alberding, Blake Antzoulatos, Dejuan Butler, Matthew Cindric, Grant Daley, Brian Driscoll, Collin Gamble, Colin Hamilton, Brian Hightower, Jeremiah Hunter, Myles Jernigan, Brett Johnson, Everett Johnson, Thomas Lee, Darius Long Jr., Mason Mangum, Patrick McMorris, Tyson McWilliams, Barrett Miller, Kenden Robinson Jr., Brayden Rohme, T.J. Session, Jackson Sirmon, Craig Woodson and Isaiah Young.
