Cal Set To Host Santa Clara
Quick Turnaround Pits Cal Against Bay Area Foe
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team will continue its three-game season-opening homestand by taking on Santa Clara Wednesday at Haas Pavilion at 7 p.m. PT. The Golden Bears won their season opener against Cal State Bakersfield 89-56 on Monday.
This marks the 35th meeting between the two programs with Cal owning a four-game winning streak and a 28-7 series advantage dating back to the 1972-73 season. The two teams last played on Dec. 14, 2019 in a 69-65 Cal win.
The Broncos are coming off a 55-47 road win against cross-town rival San Jose State on Monday.
The Bears will be celebrating Latinx Heritage Night with appearances by world famous wrestler and Cal alum
Thunder Rosa and
Mariachi Luz de Oro. Thunder Rosa will be performing her single, Mi Mejor Escuela at halftime. Cal's very own, Mariachi Luz de Oro, is a student-run group that performs traditional and modern mariachi music on campus.
Wednesday's game will be live streamed with play-by-play announcer Greg Mescall.

- Leilani McIntosh racked up five assists to give her 387 for her career, moving her up to the ninth spot on Cal's all-time career assists list.
- Marta Suarez tallied a career-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting which included 2-of-2 from deep.
- Kemery Martin recorded a career-high four blocks while stuffing the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.

- The Bears welcome six newcomers to the team: freshmen guards Anastasia Drosouni (Greece) and Lulu Twidale (Australia), junior forward Marta Suárez from Tennessee, senior forward McKayla Williams from Gonzaga and graduate transfers Ila Lane from UCSB and Ioanna Krimili from the University of San Francisco.
- Martín ended the 2022-23 season tied for the team lead with 59 made 3-pointers, which ranked eighth in the Pac-12 and were good for seventh on Cal's all-time single-season list.
- Lane was named to this year's Lisa Leslie Award preseason watch list for the third time in her career. The award is given to the country's top center every year.
- Krimili joins the Bears as one of the top 3-point shooters in the country. Last year she ranked 30th in the nation with 84 made 3-pointers while shooting at a 39.4 percent clip.
- The Bears are coming off an incredibly competitive 13-17 season in which they played the second most ranked opponents (16) in the country. In 9 of the 16 ranked games, Cal had a lead or was within single-digits with under five minutes left in the game.
