Cal To Host School Haas Rock Against Eastern Washington
Annual Tradition Features Educational Programming, Player Interactions For Local Youth
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team will play its sixth of 10 consecutive home games Friday when it hosts Eastern Washington at Haas Pavilion at 11:30 a.m. PT. The game is part of the program's annual School Haas Rock event, which serves as an opportunity to entertain and educate local youth at the elementary and middle school levels and bring them into a university setting.
Before the game, students will take part in an educational assembly that features visits from the Golden Bear community, fun and exciting learning opportunities, and more. In addition to the assembly, each student will receive a workbook that introduces the women's basketball players to kids and highlights the different cultures that are on the team.
This will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs with Cal holding a 3-1 series advantage and a two-game winning streak. The Bears last faced the Eagles on Nov. 23, 2012, in a 91-58 win.
Eastern Washington, led by third-year head coach Joddie Gleason, was picked to win the conference in the Big Sky preseason coaches' poll, receiving six-of-nine first-place votes. The Eagles return their entire starting five from last year's team including guard Jamie Loera and small forward Jaydia Martin, who were named to the Big Sky preseason All-Conference team.
Friday's game will air on the Cal Live Stream with Ben Ross on the call.
