BERKELEY – Although most of California track & field's roster will receive a respite from collegiate competition this weekend following its stellar season opener, there will be no rest for the Bears' multi-events group, who will travel to Spokane, Wash., later this week for the WSU Open & Combined Events (Feb. 2-3).

Four men – seniors Hakim McMorris, Jono Pelusi, Cole Whatley and sophomore Riley Knott – enter their first heptathlon of the season, while freshman Torre Anderson attempts her first-ever collegiate pentathlon. All five were in action last week at the New Mexico Team Open, with McMorris moving up to eighth in program history in the long jump and Knott tying for first place in the high jump.

"These five are great teammates and training partners," said assistant coach Dan Lefever, who heads the multi-events and vertical jumps groups. "As a group, they have a synergy that produces greater results than the sum of what they individually bring to practice – they are always working to push and support each other."

Cal will also host the first of two scheduled all-comers meets on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Edwards Stadium, where many Bears will be competing as unattached athletes. Interested potential entrants can register to compete on DirectAthletics.com. Events are scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. with the hammer throw.
