CALIFORNIA VISITS SAN DIEGO STATE SUNDAY

— Cal ends its season-opening four-game road stretch by visiting San Diego State in a non-conference contest on Sunday with first draw scheduled for Noon PST
— Cal has a 3-9 record in its all-time series against San Diego State with the Aztecs having won seven in a row since the most recent Golden Bears' victory 10-9 in overtime in Berkeley on March 20, 2016
— San Diego State has also won the last three games played between the teams in San Diego with the last Cal win coming on March 10, 2012  
— Sunday's weather in San Diego is scheduled for partly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 63 and a low of 44 with winds out of the southwest at eight miles per hour

GOLDEN BEARS DROP PAC-12 OPENER AT NO. 15 STANFORD WEDNESDAY
— Cal led into the second quarter of its Pac-12 opener at No. 15 Stanford before the Cardinal unleashed long scoring runs in the second (5-0), third (6-0) and fourth (6-0) quarters in a 20-8 victory over the Golden Bears in the Pac-12 opener for both teams
— Cal led on three different occasions over the first 18-plus minutes of the game
— Morse registered a hat trick and an assist to lead the Bears
— Five others (Hanna Deringer, Mason, Josie Lillquist, Kate Rothman, Wong) each had a single goal 
— Wang led the way with a pair of assists, while Morse, Rothman and Wong picked up one each  
— Cal played all three of the goalkeepers on its roster with Alicia Souliotis making the first start of her career and Chloe Rand seeing the first action of hers

MAYA LAWLISS NAMED PAC-12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maya Lawliss became the first Cal player in the history of the program to be named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week when the first honor of the 2023 season was announced February 14
— Lawliss combined for eight goals in two contests for the week ending February 12, including a career-high six goals in a 17-9 season-opening victory at Lindenwood on February 10

MORE NOTES
— Cal has had notable contributions from both veterans and newcomers in 2023 including their top point scorers in senior Amanda Morse and Mya Wang, who is in her first season of action. Both have nine points.
— The team's top two goal scorers are seniors in Morse and Maya Lawliss, while Wang is third with six 
— Two of the team's top three players in assists are returnees in Kate Rothman (4) and Quinnlyn Mason (3), while Wang is tied for second with Mason with three
Charlotte Smith, a transfer from James Madison and younger sister of former Cal player Marina Smith, leads the way with 14 draw controls while Kennedy Goss is second with 12 after recording 80 as a 2022 sophomore that was second all-time and one shy of the school record of 81 by Eliza Christman in 2019
— Goss is fifth on Cal's all-time list with 131 draw controls with the all-time record of 178 held by LizaBanks Campagna (2018-21)  
— Ella Anhut, Lillquist, Smith, Rothman, Wang and Courtney Wong have all scored the first goal of their collegiate careers during the first three contests  
— Cal has played three goalkeepers in the first three contests with Riley Drullinger starting each of the first two before Alicia Souliotis made her first career start against Stanford when Chloe Rand also played in her first collegiate game
— 10 players had made their Cal debuts in 2023 in Anhut, Annette Ciupek, Avery Hoeft, Lillquist, Clara Page, Amanda Pio, Rand, Smith, Wang and Wong, with all but Smith playing for the first time collegiately 
— Cal is celebrating the 25th season of women's lacrosse in 2023 with the program first gaining intercollegiate status in 1999 as a member of the Western Women's Lacrosse League

Jennifer Wong was a winner in her Cal debut on February 10 in a 17-9 victory at Lindenwood
— Wong is the fifth head coach in Cal history following Jill Malko (1999-2007), Theresa Sherry (2008-11), Ginger Miles (2012-14) and Brooke Eubanks (2015-22)
