Cal Comes Up With Big Win At Oregon

Golden Bears Knock Off Ducks, 13-12

EUGENE – California (3-5, 1-1 Pac-12) scored the game's first three goals and never trailed but needed two crucial saves from Alicia Souliotis in the game's final four-and-a-half minutes to hold on for a 13-12 victory over Oregon (3-3, 0-1 Pac-12) on Friday evening at Pape Field. Souliotis finished the contest with 10 saves and allowed just three second-half goals.

"This was a big win for us, especially coming off a hard loss [to American] and being the start of Pac-12 play," Souliotis said. "There was a lot of unity in the game today, whether the offense scored a goal or the defense made a huge stop, you could feel the energy all over the field."

"On the defensive side of the ball, we were able to make the big plays in high pressure situations," Souliotis added. "I felt the support from the entire team, especially in the fourth quarter, where a single goal could alter the game. For me, the final quarter of the game was the most important. We scored the goals we needed to and the defense was playing great. The team gave me the opportunity to do my part to get the win."

Maya Lawliss led the way offensively for the Golden Bears with four goals, while Amanda Morse and Mya Wang matched Lawliss' four points by posting hat tricks and one assist apiece. Quinnlyn Mason and Josie Lillquist each had a pair of points with Mason scoring a pair goals, while Lillquist registered a single goal and assist. Courtney Wong closed out the Cal scoring with one assist.

"It was exciting to get our first Pac-12 win," Lawliss said. "It was a huge team win that took every single person on the roster. We have been moving in the right direction and it is exciting for the group to come out on top in a close game. Jen [Wong] is doing a lot for the program and we are continuing to get better, which is exciting moving forward."

Kennedy Goss posted eight draw controls to help the Bears to a 16-12 team advantage.

Cal continues its two-game Pac-12 road trip at Colorado (2-4, 1-0 Pac-12) on Sunday. The contest will be televised live by Pac-12 Mountain with the first draw scheduled for Noon MDT/11 am PDT.
