STANFORD – California track & field posted a stellar outing in its first true outdoor meet of the 2023 season, recording no fewer than 4 meet records, 10 entries on the program's all-time top-10 lists and 10 event wins at the Cardinal Classic on Saturday.

On the men's side, the hammer throw was the standout of the morning's field events as two Golden Bears – senior Kegan Schroeter and junior Ivar Moisander – posted top 10 program marks. Schroeter's winning toss of 69.33m (227-5) was also a new meet record and currently stands at No. 2 in program history, while Moisander's 68.20m (223-9) improved his own No. 5 mark and earned him second place in the field. Sophomore Riley Knott posted a win of his own in the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.00m (6-6.75) to match his own personal best and close out the morning.

The track events then kicked off with another Cal win as sophomore David Foster, junior George Monroe, sophomore Gavin Schurr and junior Samir Thota combined for a time of 40.58 in the 4x100m relay. Later, sophomore Aiden Lippert picked up right where he left off from the indoor season, winning the 400m in 46.38 – the 10th-fastest time in program history. Foster quickly followed that up with his own event win (and meet record), finishing the 100m in 10.34 that tied the Bears' No. 3 all-time mark. Cal's men finished the day with a win in the shot put (courtesy of junior Jeff Duensing's 18.75m/61-6.25) and a win in the 4x400m relay as sophomore Isaiah Shaw, junior Josh Keller, Lippert and senior Henry Larkin combined for a time of 3:09.69.

The women collected several impressive results of their own, starting with senior Ijeoma Uche's long jump of 6.17m (20-3) that earned her second place and the No. 10 spot on the program's all-time list. Three women collected program top 10s of their own in the pole vault – senior Amari Turner's meet record of 4.27m (14-0) earned her the No. 2 spot, while freshman Ali Sahaida and senior Kylie Hilton tied at No. 6 with a height of 4.06m (13-3.75). Meanwhile, junior Jada Hicks posted her own meet record on the track, running the 100m hurdles in 13.43; not to be outdone by her fellow indoor star, sophomore Aysha Shaheed won the 100m dash with a time of 11.59 that ranks seventh in program history. Junior Busola Akinduro rounded out Cal's top 10s by improving her own No. 8 triple jump mark, finishing in second place at 13.18m (43-3).

Hoping to build off of their early-season successes, the Bears will have a quick turnaround before their next outdoor meet; they are scheduled to head down to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational on March 24-25.
