HOW TO FOLLOW
SERIES AT A GLANCE
- Cal leads the all-time series with Pacific, 57-39-1, and won last year's game in Berkeley 5-1.
- The Bears lead 34-20 in the series against Utah, but the Utes took two of three in Salt Lake City last season. Cal won the series in 2021 (2-1) and holds a 7-5 advantage in the last 12 matchups.
QUICK HITS
- The Bears check in at No. 28 in this week's NCAA RPI ratings after reaching No. 20 two weeks ago, their highest standing since the 2018 season.
- Cal took down No. 2 UCLA on March 11 in an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings for its first win over a top-5 team since the 2012 season, when the Bears swept No. 3 Washington in three games March 30-April 2 in Berkeley.
- Sitting at 4-4-1 in the Pac-12, the Bears took the series from Arizona State last week in Berkeley, their first series win against the Sun Devils since the 2012 season.
- The Bears are tied for the Pac-12 Conference lead in both home runs and doubles. Cal has crushed 42 long balls to rank 10th in the NCAA and is 13th nationally with 50 doubles.
- Cal's 1.61 doubles per game leads the Pac-12 (16th NCAA).
- With 1.35 home runs per game, Cal ranks 10th in the country and second in the Pac-12, trailing only ASU (1.46).
- Cal's 96 extra-base hits (42 HR, 50 2B, 4 3B) lead the Pac-12 and rank sixth in the NCAA.
- Cal has five players with at least four home runs - Makena Smith (10), Sophie Medellin (7), Kacey Zobac (5), Tianna Bell (4) and Elon Butler (4).
- Smith is tied for third in the Pac-12 with 10 home runs (18th NCAA). Her 40 career home runs are two away from tying for fifth all-time at Cal (42 – Lindsey Ziegenhirt 2010-13).
- Smith has 145 career RBI, eight short of tying for fifth on Cal's all-time list (153 – Melanie McCart 1994-97).
- Zobac is tied for third in the Pac-12 with nine doubles (49th NCAA).
- Haylei Archer's 1.83 ERA ranks seventh in the conference.
- Tatum Anzaldo has been on a tear since returning to the lineup on March 3 against Miami (Ohio), going 19-for-49 (.387).
- Mika Lee (.368), Zobac (.358), Smith (.340) and D'Asha Saiki (.333) are all above .300 to lead the Bears offensively.
- Anzaldo (.379), a 2022 first-team all-conference selection, hasn't had enough plate appearances to qualify for official stats after missing 10 games earlier this season.
