Offense Leads Bears Past Rebels In Opener

Elon Butler Records Three Hits And Four RBI

LAS VEGAS – The California softball team blasted three home runs on the way to a six-inning, 12-4, win in the series opener against UNLV on Friday night at Eller Media Stadium.

The Golden Bears (26-12-1) were led by homers from Acacia Anders, Elon Butler and Kacey Zobac. Butler tallied a season best three hits and tied a season-high with four RBI. The Rebels (19-21) got a home run from Jasmine Martin.

Cal jumped on the Rebels quickly in the first, scoring three runs on four hits including a Tatum Anzaldo double, RBI single off the bat of Butler and a Zobac RBI double. The third run came across when Zobac raced home on a wild pitch.

The Bears doubled their lead in the second inning on a three-run Anders homer, her fourth of the year to plate Anzaldo and Diamond Holland. The Rebels got a run back in the home half of the second with a solo shot off of starter Haylei Archer but Cal got it right back in the third with a solo Zobac blast to make it 7-1.

UNLV made Cal go to its bullpen in the bottom of the third after a two-run long ball off of Archer made it 7-3, as Annabel Teperson came on in relief with one down and got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Cal's third home run of the night came in the fourth, a two-run blast from Butler to make it 9-3. Leading 9-4 heading to the sixth, the Bears used a Makena Smith two-run double and Butler RBI single to plate their 12th run of the night.
