LAS VEGAS – The California softball team blasted three home runs on the way to a six-inning, 12-4, win in the series opener against UNLV on Friday night at Eller Media Stadium.
The Golden Bears (26-12-1) were led by homers from
Acacia Anders,
Elon Butler and
Kacey Zobac. Butler tallied a season best three hits and tied a season-high with four RBI. The Rebels (19-21) got a home run from Jasmine Martin. Â
Cal jumped on the Rebels quickly in the first, scoring three runs on four hits including a
Tatum Anzaldo double, RBI single off the bat of Butler and a Zobac RBI double. The third run came across when Zobac raced home on a wild pitch.
The Bears doubled their lead in the second inning on a three-run Anders homer, her fourth of the year to plate Anzaldo and
Diamond Holland. The Rebels got a run back in the home half of the second with a solo shot off of starter
Haylei Archer but Cal got it right back in the third with a solo Zobac blast to make it 7-1.
UNLV made Cal go to its bullpen in the bottom of the third after a two-run long ball off of Archer made it 7-3, as
Annabel Teperson came on in relief with one down and got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Cal's third home run of the night came in the fourth, a two-run blast from Butler to make it 9-3. Leading 9-4 heading to the sixth, the Bears used a
Makena Smith two-run double and Butler RBI single to plate their 12
th run of the night. Â Â Â
