OKLAHOMA CITY – California senior catcher/infielder Makena Smith was selected with the No. 15-overall pick by the Smash It Sports Vipers in the 2023 Women's Pro Fastpitch Draft on Monday at the Yale Theatre in Oklahoma City.

Smith, a native of Murrieta, California, is hitting .347 and is tied for third in the Pac-12 with 11 home runs and tied for sixth with 10 doubles this season. Smith's 86 total bases rank fourth in the conference and her .694 slugging percentage is eighth.

The 2022 NFCA Third Team All-American and First Team All-Pac-12 honoree has played all over the diamond for the Bears defensively, including, catcher, third base and outfield. Smith became the first Cal player to receive NFCA All-America honors since Nisa Ontiveros in 2016 and was the 43^rd Bear to be named an NFCA All-American in history.

The Vipers are looking to build on a successful exhibition season in 2022 and will play this year at the recently named Choccolocco Park, in Oxford, Alabama.
