Cal Women’s Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

Bears To Play 11 At Home, 9 on TV

BERKELEY –  The California women's soccer team released its 2023 schedule on Friday, announcing a 20-game slate that includes 11 home matches and nine televised contests.

Coming off their best finish in the Pac-12 standings since 2015, the Golden Bears kick things off with a home exhibition against UC Davis on Aug. 6. The regular season begins with a pair of competitive road outings at Tennessee (Aug. 17) and at NCAA runner-up North Carolina (Aug. 20). These will be the first of eight opponents that qualified for last year's NCAA Championship.

Cal's home season opener is set for Aug. 31 against San Francisco, kicking off a five-game homestand that includes Pac-12 Network-televised matches against Cal Poly (Sept. 3), Santa Clara (Sept. 7) and Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 10). The Bears open their conference schedule on Sept. 22 at Washington.

The following week, Cal plays its first Pac-12 home matches against Arizona (Sept. 28) and Arizona State (Oct. 1). The final stretch of the regular season pits the Bears against three teams that ended the 2022 season ranked in the top 25 nationally, with road games at UCLA (Oct. 26), USC (Oct. 29) and Stanford (Nov. 3).

Cal will be looking to make its 14th trip to the postseason in 17 tries under head coach Neil McGuire after returning to the NCAA Championship last season.

Among the leading returners is forward Karlie Lema, who finished second on the team during her sophomore season with five goals and 12 points. The Bears also bring back U.S. Youth National Team goalkeeper Teagan Wy, who didn't concede a goal in five appearances and 164 minutes as a freshman.
