Both Bears Earn Third-Team Honors
AUSTIN, Texas – Two California student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 Academic All-America Women's At-Large Third Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Kaitlyn Turner from women's rowing and
Cato Knipping from field hockey both earn All-America honors for the first time. Â
Â
Turner just completed her third season serving as the coxswain of the Bears' varsity eight boat. In May she was awarded the Oscar and Theodore Geballe Postgraduate Scholarship, given to the Pac-12 student-athlete who demonstrates both academic and athletic excellence. Turner graduated with a doublemajor in business administration and society and environment, and she is a two-time honoree on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll while also a member of the CRCA All-Academic Team. Turner has been admitted into the UCLA School of Law for next fall.
Â
Knipping, a cognitive science and economics double major, graduated with a 3.96 cumulative GPA and was a co-recipient of the Neufeld Scholar-Athlete Award, awarded annually to a graduating male and female student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average. Knipping was also named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and a four-time NFHCA Academic Squad honoree. The native of Amsterdam will enroll in a one-year Master's In Business Economics program at the University of Amsterdam in the fall.
