Cal Opens Season At Tennessee, No. 2 North Carolina
Bears Face Vols Thursday Night, Tarheels In Sunday Matinee
BERKELEY- The California women's soccer team opens the 2023 season with a pair of road matches this week. First on the docket is a Thursday night matchup at Tennessee, followed by a Sunday matinee at No. 2 North Carolina.

History
This will be just the second meeting between the Bears and the Volunteers, with Cal taking a 2-1 win at home in the first matchup all the way back in 1999. Thursday's match will be the Bears' first contest at Regal Soccer Stadium. The Tarheels own a 9-1-0 all-time record over Cal, with the last meeting ending in a 1-1 tie in 2015.
Bears Picked Fourth in Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll
The Pac-12 announced its preseason coaches poll Monday, with Cal picked to finish fourth in the conference race. It's the Bears' highest placement on the poll since 2018 and matches their 2022 finish. UCLA was picked to finish first, followed by Stanford in second and USC in third. Rounding out the top five was Washington State in fifth.
Wy Named Preseason All-Pac-12
Sophomore Goalkeeper
Teagan Wy was named to the inaugural preseason All-Pac-12 team as voted on by the conference's head coaches. Wy spent 165 minutes between the posts last season as a freshman and did not allow a goal in her five appearances.
In May, the Rancho Santa Margarita native earned a spot on the U.S. Women's Youth National Team's CONCACAF U-20 roster and helped lead her country to a second-place finish in the prestigious tournament. She started in four of the team's five matches and earned three wins, including a shutout.
Home Sweet Home
Following their season-opening road trip, the Bears will return home to Edwards Stadium for a five-match homestand. The two-week stint begins with their home opener on August 31
st against San Francisco. Three of the five matches will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks.
2022 In Review
The Bears are coming off a strong 2022 season where they posted a 10-5-6 overall record with a 5-3-3 Pac-12 mark to finish fourth in the conference. It was Cal's best finish since 2015 and capped off with a return to the NCAA Championship, the 13
