Sophomore Earns First Weekly Honor Of Her Career

BERKELEY – For the first time in her career, sophomore goalkeeper Tina Jolly has been named the America East Defender of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
 
Jolly and the Golden Bears went 1-1 last week, which included a thrilling 3-2 win in double-overtime over No. 5 Penn State on Friday. Jolly, a native of Rosario, Argentina, went 1-1 with 10 saves, a 2.09 goals against average and a .714 save percentage. She earned her first collegiate win over the Nittany Lions.
 
Jolly began the week with a career-high five saves, including a crucial save on a penalty stroke prior to halftime, in a 2-1 defeat against No. 16 Rutgers on Monday. Against Penn State, Jolly matched her career-high with five saves – three coming in the first overtime as the Nittany Lions failed to get the game-winner.
 
The first-year starter is currently 36th in the nation, averaging 4.0 saves per game. She ranks sixth in the America East in both saves (16) and save percentage (0.615).
 
Cal returns to action Friday when it play Long Island University at 11 a.m. PT at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium in Hempstead, NY.
