The California women's basketball team will travel to Palm Springs to compete in the Acrisure Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Golden Bears (6-0) will put their unbeaten streak to the test against Michigan State, which also brings a 6-0 record into the tournament, at 11 a.m. PT Tuesday. Cal will then face either Arizona or Vanderbilt on Wednesday. Both games will be played at Acrisure Arena.

A win against Michigan State would give Cal its third victory against a 2024 NCAA Tournament team after having already defeated Gonzaga and Auburn in the past two weeks. Improving to 7-0 would also mark Cal's best start to a season under head coach Charmin Smith.

This is the third meeting between the Bears and Spartans, with the series tied at 1-1. Both previous matchups occurred during what was then known as the Oakland Tribune Classic hosted by Cal.

Michigan State is led by second-year head coach Robyn Fralick, who guided the team to a 22-9 record and an NCAA Tournament berth in her first year. The Spartans returned three starters including Julia Ayrault who leads the team in scoring (15.4 points per game) and rebounding (6.1 rebounds per game).

Tuesday's game will be air on TruTV with Cindy Brunson and Christy Winters-Scott on the call.

QUICK HITS
In the 63-59 win over Auburn on Friday:
  • Lulu Twidale nailed four 3-pointers (4-of-8), including back-to-back triples that tied the game and spurred an 11-0 run when the Bears were down six with five minutes left in the game.
  • Twidale finished with her second 20-point outing of the season with 22 points (7-of-11) along with six rebounds.
  • Ioanna Krimili nailed three triples in the first quarter and ended up with 14 points to go along with six assists for the second straight game.
  • Michelle Onyiah and Marta Suárez both brought down eight rebounds to tie for the game high.
  • The Bears held an opponent to just one made 3-pointer for the second straight game.
  • Cal held Auburn's leading scorer, Taliah Scott, who came into the game averaging 27.0 points per game, to just seven points.
  • Krimili is currently the nation's leader in both career triples (357) and most career games with at least five made 3-pointers (24).
  • Krimili and Twidale are off to a hot start from beyond the arc. Twidale is seventh in the NCAA with 22 made 3-pointers and Krimili is 11th with 20; they are both shooting over 46% from downtown and 50% from the field.
  • Cal is the only school in the country to have two players (Krimili and Twidale) rank in the top 15 nationally for 3-pointers made (through Nov. 25).
  • Krimili and Twidale are the only two players in the country with shooting averages of at least 50% from the field, 40% from downtown and 85% from the free throw line (min. 40 3PA).
  • All five of Cal's starters have been efficient from the field as each member of the starting five is shooting over 50% from the field, led by Onyiah at 57.1%.
  • Natalia Ackerman has been incredibly productive off the bench, averaging 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in just 11.5 minutes per game. She is also 11-for-15 from the field so far this season.
  • Onyiah is currently two blocks away from taking the fifth spot on Cal's all-time list. She would pass recent graduate ('22) Evelien Lutje Schipholt.
  • Entering the fourth week of play, Cal has hit 64 triples this season, which ranks fifth in the nation.
  • The Bears have been aggressive over the first six games of the season getting to the line 132 times, which ranks 20th in the NCAA among schools who have played six games so far. Cal has had four games with at least 20 free throw attempts - a mark they only reached four times total last year.
