Cal Hosts Battle Of The Bay Against Stanford
Bears Look To Snap 12-Game Series Losing Streak
The California women's basketball team (9-1) will look for its fifth win this season over a team from the 2024 NCAA Tournament when it hosts the annual Battle of the Bay against Stanford at Haas Pavilion on Friday at 7 p.m. PT.
This game marks the 103rd all-time meeting between the two programs with the Cardinal (7-2) having an 81-21 series advantage and winners of 12 straight. Cal's last win against Stanford was an 81-80 victory on Jan. 31, 2019.
The most recent meeting took place on Mar. 7, 2024, in the second round of last year's Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas when the Bears took an eight-point lead into halftime but were unable to come away with the win.
A win on Friday would mark the Bears' best start to a season since they started 13-1 during the 2016-17 season.
Stanford is led by first-year head coach Kate Paye, who took over for legendary coach Tara VanDerveer, who spent the previous 38 years at the helm. The Cardinal is led by Nunu Agara, who paces the team in scoring (18.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game).
Friday's game will be streamed on ACCNX with Dave Benz and Theo Robertson on the call.
