HOW TO FOLLOW
QUICK HITS
- Elon Butler was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after a standout weekend during the Golden Bears' undefeated weekend at the Littlewood Classic. Butler hit .600 (9-for-15) in Cal's five victories, collecting two home runs and two doubles to go with seven RBI. Her 2-run homer tied the game against then-No. 17/21 Virginia Tech as the Bears went on to a 6-5, eight-inning, victory over the Hokies.
- Cal is ranked in three of the four major polls after starting the season 10-1, the first time being ranked in more than one poll in a week since 2018. The Bears are No. 21 in the NFCA/USA Today Poll and the Softball America poll, while checking in at No. 22 in the D1 Softball rankings.
- The Bears are tied for the league lead with 15 home runs, spurred by Butler's four and Mika Lee's three. Eight different players have hit a long ball already this season.
- Randi Roelling has been a workhorse in the circle during her first two weeks as a Bear, throwing 25.2 innings with 17 strikeouts to lead the team. She has three wins already this season.
- Two-time First-Team All-Pac-12 selection Tatum Anzaldo is back to lead the team, taking over third base duties that were previously manned by Cal's first two-time NFCA All-American since 2013, Makena Smith.
- Anzaldo led the squad with a .383 average in 2023 as the leadoff hitter. She was second on the team with 59 hits and third in both slugging percentage (.578) and total bases (89).
- Cal returns three pitchers to the squad who all tied for the 2023 team lead with 10 wins in senior Haylei Archer and juniors Anna Reimers and Annabel Teperson.
- The Bears welcome new members to the coaching staff this season in Brandon Telesco (hitting/recruiting coordinator) and Danielle O'Toole-Trejo (pitching), while Kailee Cuico (defensive coordinator) was elevated to a full-time assistant coach heading into her fourth year with the program. Marisa Stankiewicz also joined the Bears as director of player development.
