CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Kyndal Todd tied the game with an RBI double and
Kaylee Pond hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly as the No. 21 California softball team rallied for a 6-4 win over Seattle on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Golden Bears (13-1) got insurance in the seventh inning on a
Tianna Bell solo home run and
Randi Roelling shut down the Redhawks in the bottom half of the frame to close out the game and earn her fifth win of the season.
Scoreless through three, Cal got on the board first in the fourth inning when
Lagi Quiroga hit a 2-run double just inside the left field foul line to plate
Ryann Orange and
Elon Butler. The Bears made it a three-run lead on Bell's RBI double heading to the home fifth.
Haylei Archer got the start for Cal and turned in 3.1 shutout innings before
Anna Reimers came on in the fourth. After a fielding error and a popup in the fifth a 2-run Redhawk home run made it 3-2 as Roelling went to the circle following a walk.
Nikola Simpson was the first batter Roelling faced and she took the second pitch over the fence to left for another 2-run shot as Seattle took its first lead, 4-3. The freshman from Modesto was able to get the final seven outs and keep the Redhawks off the board the rest of the way.
