Bears Wrap Up Homestand

Cal Hosts Sacramento State For Midweek Clash

BERKELEY –Fresh off a 4-0 week that included a weekend sweep of visiting UConn, the California baseball team will wrap up a five-game homestand on Tuesday against Sacramento State. Tuesday's contest at Stu Gordon Stadium is scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m. and will be live streamed.

The Golden Bears (6-1) are coming off a thrilling weekend, having completed the perfect 4-0 week with a 5-4 win over UConn on Sunday courtesy of a walk-off single from junior outfielder Rodney Green Jr.

Sacramento State (3-4) is coming off a series loss to No. 22 UC San Diego following a 12-0 defeat at home on Sunday.

HOW TO FOLLOW
QUICK HITS

  • The Bears are currently riding a four-game winning streak and are 4-0 at home this season. A win tomorrow would give Cal its first 5-0 start at home since the Bears began the season 9-0 at home in 2018.
  • The Bears hit 11 home runs last week, including nine in the UConn series. Cal's 11 home runs last week were the second most nationally, trailing only Alabama, Georgia, and Texas Tech, which hit 12 apiece. The Bears are 12th in the nation in home runs per game at 2.14 and 15th in total home runs with 15 this year.
  • Freshman PJ Moutzouridis hit .600 last week, and in doing so, his season batting average fell to .632 on the year (12-for-19). His .632 average is sixth best nationally and his .741 on-base percentage is tops in the nation. Moutzouridis has five multi-hit performances in seven games this season, including a three-hit performance in the 15-12 win over UConn on Saturday.
  • Junior first baseman Peyton Schulze notched his 100th career hit on Friday night. Schulze entered the game with 97 hits and secured the 100th with a single up the middle. The Poway native had 42 hits as a freshman at Long Beach State and has 60 hits at Cal.
  • Senior relief pitcher Tyler Stasiowski had a huge weekend coming out of the bullpen for the Bears. Stasiowski stranded all three inherited runners in his two appearances against the Huskies. He picked up the save in the save in Cal's 15-12 win on Saturday, tossing 1.1 innings while striking out three. In the finale on Sunday, he was even better. Entering the game with two on and one out and the Bears already trailing 2-1 he got a pair of strikeouts to end the threat, allowing Cal to mount its comeback. Stasiowski has two saves in two chances with a 2.25 ERA in 4.0 innings pitched this season.
  • Juniors Caleb Lomavita and Rodney Green Jr. continue to move closer to cracking Cal's top-10 list for career home runs. With his three home runs on the year, Lomavita has 26 for his career – needing just four more to tie Connor Jackson (2001-03) for 10th all-time with 30. Green has four to lead the team and now has 24 for his career.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday will be the 63rd meeting between the Bears and Hornets. All-time Cal owns a 46-16 mark against Sacramento State, including a 27-5 record at Stu Gordon Stadium. The Bears are currently riding a two-game winning streak against their Northern California foe, having won 6-2 in the last head-to-head meeting on Mar. 1, 2022.
