HOW TO FOLLOW
QUICK HITS
- The Bears have won 13 straight games heading into week four of the season, the program's longest winning streak since 2013 when it won 22 in a row. Cal won 12 consecutive games in both the 2018 and 2015 seasons.
- Cal is ranked in all four major polls after starting the season 15-1, the first time being ranked in more than one poll during a week since 2018. The Bears are No. 20 in the NFCA/USA Today poll, No. 22 in the Softball America poll, and No. 24 in the USA Softball and D1 Softball rankings.
- The Bears lead the conference with 23 home runs. Arizona is second with 22, while Arizona State is third (16).
- Cal is also among the top three in the conference in several other offensive categories, including hits (137, 3rd), batting average (.324, 3rd), doubles (25, 2nd), RBI (101, 2nd), extra base hits (49, 2nd) and runs (109, 3rd).
- Elon Butler was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Feb. 20 after a standout performance during the Golden Bears' undefeated weekend at the Littlewood Classic. Butler hit .600 (9-for-15) in Cal's five victories, collecting two home runs and two doubles to go with seven RBI. Her 2-run homer tied the game against then-No. 17/21 Virginia Tech as the Bears went on to a 6-5, eight-inning, victory over the Hokies. Â
- Butler is currently leading the conference in slugging percentage (1.026), is second in home runs (6) and is third in batting average (.474).
- Randi Roelling has been a workhorse in the circle during her first two weeks as a Bear, throwing 42.0 innings with 40 strikeouts to lead the team (T-4 Pac-12). Her six wins are tied for second in the conference.
- Two-time First-Team All-Pac-12 selection Tatum Anzaldo is back to lead the team, taking over third base duties that were previously manned by Cal's first two-time NFCA All-American since 2013, Makena Smith.
- Anzaldo went on a tear last week at the Mary Nutter Classic, hitting .600 (9-for-15) to raise her season average from .240 to .375.
- The Bears welcome new members to the coaching staff this season in Brandon Telesco (hitting/recruiting coordinator) and Danielle O'Toole-Trejo (pitching), while Kailee Cuico (defensive coordinator) was elevated to a full-time assistant coach heading into her fourth year with the program. Marisa Stankiewicz also joined the Bears as director of player development.Â
