Cal Falls 10-8 To St. Bonaventure

Kennedy Goss’ Career-High Four Goals Not Enough For Golden Bears

BERKELEY, Calif. – Kennedy Goss scored a career-high four goals but her performance was not enough for the California lacrosse team in a 10-8 loss Thursday to St. Bonaventure (2-3). The Bonnies scored four straight goals spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth periods to snap a 5-5 tie and held on for a two-goal victory in the nonconference NCAA lacrosse contest played in wet conditions at California Memorial Stadium.

Kennedy Mason, Belle Tiesi, Alyssa Studdert and Mya Wang added a goal apiece for Cal with Kate Rothman, Studdert and Wang also each picking up an assist.

Abby Hiltz posted a hat trick and an assist to lead St. Bonaventure's offensive attack. Brooke Piper added two goals and a total of seven Bonnies with a group of five others – Kassi Hogan, Grace Hollenbeck, Rylee Gonzalez, Megan Schillinger and Riley Schott – picking up one each. Six different Bonnies also assisted on goals with Hiltz' single assist matched by Gonzalez, Hollenbeck, Callie Kessler, Fiona McGovern and Tori Nascimento.

Goss, who became Cal's all-time leader in draw controls last season, added a game-high eight more draw controls to run her career total to 233 as the Golden Bears (1-4) dominated the draw, 18-3, but Cal committed 16 turnovers on its way to a fourth straight defeat.

Ashley Herrick had 11 saves in a winning goalkeeper effort for St. Bonaventure, while both Callan Fritsch (46:53, 9 GA, 8 SV) and Alicia Souliotis (13:07, 1 GA, 1 SV) played in the net for the Bears.

Cal return to action when its current five-game homestand that is its longest since 2017 continues Wednesday, Mar. 6 when the Bears host Army. First draw is at 3 p.m. PST.
