Six Former Golden Bears To Participate In MLB Spring Breakout
Four-Day Event Features Baseball’s Future Stars
Six former California baseball players will be playing for their organizations in this week's MLB Spring Breakout. The four-day event will showcase the top players from all 30 Major League Baseball team's farm systems. The inaugural event will be held March 14-17 at Grapefruit and Cactus league spring training stadiums.
Representing their teams will be former Golden Bears Grant Holman (A's), Dylan Beavers (Orioles), Nathan Martorella (Padres), Steven Zobac (Royals), Keshawn Ogans (Braves) and Darren Baker (Nationals). The Spring Breakout features hundreds of the top prospects from around the majors. Seventy-one of the MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects are set to participate, and nearly two-thirds of the 900 players on the team's top 30 lists.
A series of 16 exhibition games will be played between teams comprised of each MLB organization's top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates the sport's budding talent. All 16 games will be broadcast through MLB.com, MLB Network, or regional sports networks.
Beavers is ranked as the No. 8 prospect in the Orioles organization. Holman is adjusting nicely to a role as a relief pitcher – he's made 25 appearances for the A's AA affiliate Midland Rockhounds, recording six holds and three saves in 32.1 innings pitched. Martorella and Ogans both were named All-Stars in the Arizona Fall League. Martorella is the No. 17 prospect for the Padres. Zobac is the No. 25 prospect for the Royals while Baker is the No. 27 prospect for the Nationals.
