STANFORD – Randi Roelling threw a complete game and
Acacia Anders went 2-for-3 with two RBI as the No. 20 California Softball team avenged its Friday loss to the Bulldogs with a 7-2 victory over No. 3 Georgia on Saturday at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.Â
Tianna Bell hit her fourth home run of the season for the Golden Bears (17-2) and Roelling allowed just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in the circle. The Bulldogs (15-2) were led by a 2-run Jaiden Fields homer.
Roelling got the start for the second time in as many days against the Bulldogs and she needed 26 pitches to get through the first, but Quiroga threw out a would-be base stealer at second to strand two.
Georgia got on the board first in the second inning with a home run to center field, but Cal answered right away in the home half. Anders led off with a double and scored on a throwing error, before two straight RBI squeeze bunts from
Alexis Bishop and
Hope Alley gave the Bears their first lead.
Cal made it 4-2 in the fourth on Bell's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot down the line in left and added two more in the fifth. Anders lasered a shot right inside the line past third base, scoring
Kyndal Todd and
Kaylee Pond.
D'Auna Johnson came through in the sixth inning with some insurance, slicing a pinch-hit RBI single to make it 7-2 and Roelling had no trouble in the seventh to secure the win.
