BERKELEY – Haylei Archer threw a complete game shutout and
Acacia Anders drove in a pair of runs as the No. 19 California softball team took down Sacramento State, 6-0, on Wednesday at Levine-Fricke Field. Â Â
Tatum Anzaldo and
Mika Lee recorded three hits apiece for the Golden Bears (22-7), while the Hornets (19-12) were led by two Gwen Ludwig base hits.
Cal took an early lead off of Sac State ace Marissa Bertuccio, scoring a pair of runs on Anders' first RBI double of the day and an
Elon Butler sacrifice fly. Leading 2-0, the Bears made it a three-run advantage in the second when
Tianna Bell brought Lee to the plate with a sac fly.
Archer sailed through the first three frames before the Hornets finally recorded their first hit in the fourth when Ludwig led off with a single. The senior from Columbus, N.J. only allowed one runner to reach third base, when back-to-back singles and a wild pitch put runners at second and third with just one out. Archer got a strikeout and a popout to end the Hornet threat and keep the zero on the scoreboard.
The Bears added two runs on two hits in the fourth and scored a run in the sixth when Anders doubled down the left field line to score Anzaldo. Archer worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to finish the game and record her fourth win of the year. Â Â
