BERKELEY – The California baseball team returns to the friendly confines of Stu Gordon Stadium for a four-game homestand this week, beginning Tuesday when the Golden Bears host Pacific in a nonconference clash.
 
Tuesday's contest is scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m. and will be live streamed.
 
The Golden Bears (15-10) are currently mired in a season-long four-game losing streak after being swept by Arizona State in Tempe last weekend. Cal has thrived at home, however, going 11-2 overall and 10-3 in nonconference play in Berkeley this season.  
 
Pacific (5-22) has lost six straight games heading into Tuesday's matchup. The Tigers have won just twice in midweek contests and are 1-11 away from Stockton. Cal head coach Mike Neu led the Pacific program for two seasons (2016-17) prior to taking the same role with the Golden Bears.

QUICK HITS

• Stu Gordon Stadium has been a welcome place for the Bears in 2024. They are hitting .280 as a team and averaging 6.3 runs per contest in 13 home games. The Bears' pitching staff boasts an ERA of 3.23 and has held opponents to a .243 batting average at home.
• Freshman Jarren Advincula extended his hitting streak to 15 games on Sunday at Arizona State, going 2-for-5. The 15-game hitting streak is the longest by a Golden Bear since Nathan Martorella had a 19-game hitting streak in 2022. During this stretch he is hitting .404 (21-for-52), which leads the team.  He also has five multi-hit games during the streak.  
• Caleb Lomavita smashed his second grand slam of the season in the Bears' loss at Arizona State on Friday. It is the third career grand slam for the junior. Cal has three total grand slams on the year, its most since hitting four in 2021.
• Lomavita's grand slam was his 11th long ball of the season and the 34th of his career. He is three home runs shy of tying former teammate Dylan Beavers (2020-22) for seventh all-time in program history.
• Cal has clubbed 41 home runs as a team this season, the second most in the Pac-12. The Bears are also second in the Pac-12 in home runs per game (1.64). The program's single-season home run record is 86, set in 1999, and Cal's 2024 squad is currently on pace to finish at 85.
• Lomavita has been a force in the three-hole of Cal's lineup, leading the Pac-12 in both RBI (38) and RBI per game (1.52). He ranks 28th and 12^th nationally in those categories, respectively. His 38 RBI gives him 127 for his career –13 shy of tying Mike Tonis (1998-00) for 10th in program history.
• The Bears have enjoyed their midweek games this season, going 5-0 while outscoring their foes 33-8. The pitching staff has been particularly dominant in those contests, owning a 1.00 ERA. Andres Galan has been sensational in midweek games, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts along with nine strikeouts while holding opponents to a .156 average.
• Rodney Green Jr. stole his ninth base of the season and clubbed his sixth home run of the year over the weekend. He has 39 career stolen bases and 26 career home runs; with four more home runs, Green will join Lomavita among Cal's career top 10 list.

 
 
SERIES HISTORY

• Tuesday will be the 94th meeting between Cal and Pacific. The Bears own a 67-26 advantage in the series. Under Mike Neu, Cal is 3-3 against his former team. Last time out, Cal defeated Pacific 5-4 on April 3, 2023. Rodney Green Jr. stole four bases in that game and starter Andres Galan tossed a five-hit gem over six innings to earn the win.
