Lomavita Earns West All-Region Honors
Junior Catcher Is Recognized By ABCA All-West Region Coaches
California catcher Caleb Lomavita was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I West All-Region Second Team as announced by the ABCA on Tuesday.
Lomavita was one of four players representing the Pac-12 Conference to be voted onto the 15-man second team. He joins Kai Roberts (Utah), Cam Walty (Arizona) and Josh Blum (USC).
The 2024 All-Pac-12 honoree, was named a semifinalist for both the Buster Posey Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. The native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, slashed .322/.395/.586 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI while starting in all 55 games – including 48 behind the dish.
The 2024 Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honoree has put up career bests in average (.322), runs scored (51), hits (73), doubles (13), RBI (52) and on-base percentage (.395). He is one of 10 catchers nationally to steal 10 or more bases and hit 10 or home runs. He finished the year with 12 stolen bases on 16 attempts.
A mainstay at the top of the Golden Bear lineup, Lomavita is currently seventh on the program's all-time home run list with 37. He is also tied for ninth on the all-time RBI list with 141.
With the 2024 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft just one month away (July 14-16), Lomavita is rated as the No. 33-ranked draft prospect according to MLB.com and is the third highest-rated catcher.
The eight ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region teams are voted on by ABCA members and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
