EUGENE, Ore. – California track & field's outing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials came to a close on Friday at Hayward Field as volunteer assistant coach Elena Bruckner recorded a sixth-place finish out of 12 competitors in the women's discus final.

Bruckner, who has three career Trials appearances under her belt but had never reached a final before this week, posted a throw of 60.26m (197-8) on her last attempt to better her previous top mark of 60.22m (197-7). Reigning Olympic Champion Valarie Allman won the competition with a mark of 70.73m (232-0).

In total, four Cal-affiliated athletes competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. In addition to Bruckner, 2024 grad Jasmine Blair appeared in Monday's women's discus semifinal, finishing 13th at 56.95m (186-10), while rising redshirt junior Tyler Burns took 15th in the men's pole vault semifinal with a leap of 5.60m (18-4.5) and rising senior David Foster reached the men's 100m semifinal to finish 22nd with a time of 10.23.

Two more Bears will compete on Friday in their respective national championships. Swedish native Caisa-Marie Lindfors, a rising redshirt senior, will attempt to claim her third discus crown and an Olympic bid. Back in North America, while rising sophomore Justin Pretre is set to race in the Bell Canadian U20 Championships men's 1500m preliminary round, having skipped Thursday's qualifier due to already earning the meet standard earlier this year.
