Weitzeil Earns Fifth Career Olympic Medal
Golden Bear Great, U.S. Captain Wins Silver In Paris
PARIS – California women's swimming alumna and United States captain
Abbey Weitzeil added to her career Olympic medal count on the first day of swimming competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Weitzeil, a three-time Olympian, won a silver medal as a member of the U.S. 4x100-meter freestyle relay team. Despite not swimming on the Americans' relay final, Weitzeil swam the leadoff leg in prelims, qualifying her for an Olympic medal in the event.

It was the fifth Olympic medal of Weitzeil's illustrious career. The Golden Bear great clocked 53.60 in her leadoff leg in prelims, helping the USA win heat 1 and enter the final as the second seed. The Americans went on to finish as the runner-ups in the final with a time of 3:30.20.

Hunter Armstrong, who won gold in the men's 4x100m free relay.
