Murphy, Alexy, Armstrong Win Silver In 4x100 Medley Relay

PARIS – Ryan Murphy, Jack Alexy and Hunter Armstrong helped the United States capture a silver medal in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay Sunday at the Paris La Defense Arena. Cal swimming alumnus Murphy led off the relay in a split of 52.44 and Armstrong, who trains with the Cal postgraduate squad in Berkeley, swam the anchor leg as the as the U.S. posted a time of 3:28.01 to take second behind China. On Saturday, Alexy – a current Golden Bear – joined Armstrong in swimming the medley relay heats, as the U.S. posted a time of 3:31.62 to advance to the final.
 
Track & Field
Rowan Hamilton (Canada), the 2024 NCAA and Pac-12 champion, capped a tremendous season when he took ninth place in the men's hammer final with a throw of 76.59m (251-3) at Stade de France. Hamilton became the first Cal men's hammer thrower to compete at the Olympics since Jack Merchant in Paris in 1924, when Merchant likewise took ninth in the final. This year marked the first time that two Canadian men – Hamilton and gold medalist Ethan Katzberg – competed in the men's hammer Olympic final.
 
Erstwhile Cal great Camryn Rogers, taking part in the women's hammer throw qualifiers for Canada, won her flight with a throw of 74.69m (245-0) to advance to the final slated for Tuesday at 10:57 a.m. PT. Currently ranked No. 1 in the world, Rodgers will compete in her second straight Olympic final, including a fifth-place finish in Tokyo.
 
Men's Golf
Collin Morikawa (USA) shot a 70 and Byeong Hun An (South Korea) shot 72 in the fourth and final round Sunday, as the Cal alums each finished at six under par to tie for 24th place at Le Golf National.
 
Women's Water Polo
In a Group A match that featured three former Cal teammates, Kitty Lynn Joustra's Netherlands team defeated Emma Wright, Kindred Paul and Canada 20-11, with each Bear scoring one goal at the Aquatics Centre. The game was the group finale for both teams, with the Netherlands finishing second in the group with a 3-1 record and Canada finishing fourth at 1-3. Next for both teams are Tuesday's quarterfinals – Canada will play Spain at 5 a.m. PT and the Netherlands will face Italy at 6:35 a.m. PT.
