Wy Named To Preseason All-ACC Team
Bears Selected 11th In Coaches Poll
Just two hours after being named to the U.S. 2024 U20 FIFA Women's World Cup roster,
Teagan Wy of the California women's soccer team became the first Golden Bear to earn Preseason All-ACC honors, the conference announced Thursday. Additionally, the Bears were selected to finish 11th in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
Wy was the sole the goalkeeper selected to the team and Cal was one of just seven teams in the 17-school conference to be represented.
As a sophomore, Wy took over the reins as the Golden Bears' starting keeper in 2023 and made a huge impact on the team, starting every match between the posts this season. She tallied 86 saves, good for the second most both in program history and among Pac-12 goalkeepers that season. She also posted five clean sheets and a .796 save percentage.
Wy's efforts on the pitch earned her a spot on the All-Pac-12 Third Team while her academic excellence in the classroom landed her on the Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll. Her all-conference selection was the first postseason award of her collegiate career.
Cal earned 111 points in its first ACC Preseason Coaches Poll and is tabbed to finish 11th in what is widely regarded as the top conference in the nation. Seven ACC teams finished ranked top 25 in the final United Soccer Coaches poll of 2023.
