Wy Named To U.S. U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup Roster

Bear Keeper Takes Next Step In International Career

Teagan Wy of the California women's soccer team is headed to Colombia after being named to the U.S. U20 FIFA Women's World Cup roster, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Thursday. The tournament will take place from Aug. 31 – Sept. 22.

The latest step in Wy's international career comes after a successful U.S. U20 Women's National Team International Training Camp in Bogota, Colombia, where the stars and stripes picked up a pair of 1-0 wins over the host nation. The Golden Bear keeper went wire-to-wire in the second match and picked up a shutout win with three saves.

Wy helped the United States qualify for this year's World Cup as a member of the 2023 CONCACAF Women's U20 Championship team that took second place in April 2023. This will be her second World Cup experience as she served as a backup on the U20 team from 2022. Her international resume spans over six years and includes a first-place finish at the 2018 U14 CONCACAF Championship where she served as the starting keeper.

The U.S. opens the group stage of the U20 FIFA Women's World Cup on Sunday, Sept. 1, against reigning champion Spain, followed by matches with Morocco (Sept. 4) and Paraguay (Sept. 7). The U.S. will play its first two group games at Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali and its third at El Techo Stadium in the capital of Bogotá.

The top two finishers in each group along with the four best third-place teams will advance to the round of 16 to be played on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12. The winners of those matches advance to the quarterfinals on Sept. 15, from which the winners will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The third-place match will be held on Sept. 21 with the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup Final taking place Sept. 22.
