Cal Sets Two Pool Records
BERKELEY – The No. 5 California men's swimming & diving team set two pool records by
Dare Rose and Lucas Henveaux en route to defeating No. 16 USC, 212-88, on Friday at Spieker Aquatics Center.
In his season debut, Henveaux left his mark immediately by setting a pool record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:11.17, which was the fourth-fastest time in the country this season. That time placed him sixth all-time in program history in the event. Rose followed right behind after clocking a 45.17 in the 100-yard butterfly to etch his name in the record book.
The Golden Bears opened the meet clocking the fourth-fastest time in the country this season in the 200-yard medley relay with the quartet of Björn Seeliger,
Luca Pusateri Gissendaner,
Dare Rose and
Jack Alexy with a time of 1:22.40 to take first in the event.
Matthew Chai scorched the pool in the 1000-yard freestyle to touch first in a time of 8:45.81, the second-fastest time in program history and fifth-fastest in the country this season.
Yamato Okadome swept both breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breast with a time of 51.92 and the 200-yard breast in a time of 1:51.65, which tied for the fifth-fastest time in the country this season.
Destin Lasco touched first in both backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back in a time of 46.06 and the 200-yard back with a time of 1:39.21, the eighth-fastest time in the country on the season.
The Bears will celebrate senior day on Friday, Jan. 31, against Stanford to close the regular season at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
