STANFORD – The California men's gymnastics team competed with two of the nation's top squads Saturday night, meeting Stanford and Ohio State – as well as Team USA and a slew of additional gymnasts – at Burnham Pavilion for the Stanford Open.

At the end of the meet, Cal had compiled a team score of 310.200 – over six points better than its season opener nearly two weeks prior. Ohio State earned the top team score with 323.000, while Stanford finished at 319.850.

Cal started off the night on pommel horse, with freshman standout Matteo Bardana (13.250) and junior Theodor Roald Gadderud (13.600) improving on their season-opening performances and sophomore Tucker Yasunaga sticking his dismount. The team then moved to horizontal bar, which featured a stick from Roald Gadderud and a squad-leading 12.800 from Bardana.

The Bears posted their biggest improvements on floor, upping their team score by four points from their season opener. Rookie Trigg Dudley made his debut on the event, scoring a 13.400; meanwhile, Bardana earned the team's third stick of the night and anchor man Khalen Curry landed a team-high score of 13.600. Cal's pommel horse lineup was punctuated by senior Tyler Shimizu, who bettered last week's routine by .300 with a score of 13.850, and graduate All-American Aidan Li, who posted a top-notch routine and a score of 14.350. It was enough to tie him with Ohio State's Parker Thackston – the same man who shared the No. 7 spot with Li at the 2024 NCAA Championships – for first place in the meet.

The team posted another large improvement on rings with two stuck dismounts courtesy of sophomore Jaxon Mitchell (13.500) and graduate Tomo Kawada (12.850); they, along with Bardana (12.700), each improved on their scores from their last meet. Cal ended the night on vault as sophomore Carter Kim paced the squad with a 13.750.
