THOUSAND OAKS – The California men's golf team climbed two spots into a ninth-place finish with a 4-under-par 280 in the third round of the Southwestern Invitational on Wednesday.
 
Cal's third-round 280 at Sherwood Country Club was the fourth-lowest third-round score from a competitive 14-team field, which saw No. 5 Texas claim the title with an 8-under-par (844) 54-hole score. The Golden Bears finished at 15-over-par for the tournament. Junior Daniel Heo and freshman Ziqin (Eric) Zhou paced the Bears on Wednesday with third-round scores of 68 and 69, respectively.
 
Zhou was steady all week, leading Cal with a tie for 13th individually at even-par 213 (72-72-69). Kuangyu (Tony) Chen carded his third 1-over-par 72 of the tournament to finish at 3-over (216) in a tie for 26th, while Charlie Berridge narrowly missed a top-30 finish (31st) at 5-over-par (73-74-71 – 218).
 
Heo and redshirt freshman Sihao Cong tied for 44th and 68th, respectively.
