The No. 3 California men's swimming & diving team will face off against rival No. 9 Stanford for the second time this season to close out the regular season at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley on Friday. In the last meeting earlier this season, Cal bested Stanford, 181-172, in a double dual tri-meet with Arizona State. Coverage for Friday's meet will be available on ACCNX/ESPN+ and Meet Mobile.

SENIOR SENDOFF
The Bears will honor 10 seniors - Jack Alexy, Kai Crews, Trent Frandson, Robin Hanson, Gabriel Jett, Michael McGillivray, Evan Petty, Ziyad Saleem, Jacob Soderlund and Sean Swift,  along with eight graduate students - Frank Applebaum, Lucas Henveaux, Matthew Jensen, Tyler Kopp, Destin Lasco, Dare Rose, Björn Seeliger and Mewen Tomac before the start of Friday's meet.
 
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
Last time out, Cal handled then-No. 16 USC 212-88 after winning 12 of the 16 events. Lucas Henveaux set a Spieker Aquatics Complex record in his season debut after clocking a 4:11.17 in the 500-yard freestyle, the fourth-fastest time in the nation this season and the sixth-fastest time in program history. Matthew Chai swam the second-fastest time in program history in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 8:45.81, which was the fifth-fastest time in the country at the time. Destin Lasco touched first in both backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back in a time of 46.06 and the 200-yard back in a time of 1:39.21, the eighth-fastest time in the country on the season. The 200-yard medley relay team of Björn Seeliger, Luca Pusateri Gissendaner, Dare Rose and Jack Alexy took first in a time of 1:22.40, the fourth-fastest time in the nation this season.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest CSCAA Top-25 Poll released on Jan. 23, the Bears moved up two spots in the standings to land at No. 3 (360). Filling out the top five were No. 1 Texas (400), No. 2 Indiana (381),  No. 4 Arizona State (358) and No. 5 Florida (330).
 
AMONG THE TOP IN THE NATION

WEEKLY HONORS
On Jan. 21, Joshuia Thai earned his second ACC weekly award when he was named the conference's men's diver of the week after reaching the podium three times during the Cal Diving Invitational. He competed in three events – winning the platform dive with a score of 357.00 while placing third in the one-meter (350.8) and three-meter dive (386.50).
 
BRINGING HOME THE HARDWARE
Two current Cal swimmers returned to Berkeley after reaching the podium on several occasions at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships (25m) in Budapest, Hungary. Jack Alexy earned a total of five medals while setting records in the process. Alexy helped Team USA set a world record in the 4x100m freestyle relay in a time of 3:01.66 en route to gold. His 45.05 split set an American and championship record. Alexy earned his second gold medal in the 100m freestyle after touching first in a time of 45.38 while claiming bronze in the 50m freestyle with a time of 20.61. Alexy and Dare Rose joined forces on the 4x100m mixed medley relay (3:30.55) and the 4x100 medley relay (3.19.03) to help Team USA secure silver in each event.
 
GOING FOR GOLD
A total of 11 current and former Cal swimmers punched their tickets to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris while Director of Swimming & Diving David Durden was named assistant coach for the United States, marking his third time as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Jack Alexy and Hunter Armstrong, a member of California's postgraduate training group, won gold medals as members of the United States men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay team. Cal alum Ryan Murphy earned gold in the 4x100 mixed medley relay while taking the bronze in the 100-meter backstroke. Murphy, Armstrong and Alexy brought home the silver medal in the 4x100 men's medley relay. Brooks Curry, also a member of California's postgraduate training group, won silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay.
 
U.S NATIONAL TEAM
USA Swimming announced the 2024-2025 U.S National Team roster last month, featuring nine current and former Cal swimmers. The current Golden Bears selected include Jack Alexy, Dare Rose, Keaton Jones and Destin Lasco. Former Bears include Hunter Armstrong, Liam Bell, Brooks Curry, Trenton Julian and Ryan Murphy.
