Collins Earns Canadian National Team Call-Up

Cal Alumna To Play In International Friendlies

BERKELEY – Former Cal women's soccer defender Sydney Collins has been named to the Canadian Women's National Team roster for the upcoming international window, as announced by the Canadian Soccer Association on Monday.

This is Collins' first selection to Canada's senior national team since she was named to the 2024 Paris Olympics roster before suffering an injury that kept her out of competition. She earned her first call-up in 2023 and has recorded six caps in her international career.

"We are thrilled to see Syd back in with Canada," Cal head coach Neil McGuire said. "Knowing the journey she has been on to a full recovery makes it even more special. Sydney is a top-level professional with a very bright future in international soccer."

Collins, who just made her way back to the San Francisco Bay Area after being traded from the NWSL's North Carolina Courage to Bay FC on Aug. 22, was a five-year starter for the Golden Bears from 2018-2022. She served as one of Cal's team captains the final two years of her career and was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection and a 2022 All-Pacific region selection.

On Jan. 12, 2023, Collins was selected with the eighth overall pick in the NWSL draft by the Courage, which is tied for the highest NWSL pick in program history.

Canada and Collins will head to Europe to take on Switzerland on Oct. 24 at the Swissporarena in Lucerne and the Netherlands on Oct. 28 at the Goffertstadion in Nijmegen.
