Wy Earns Fourth ACC Defensive Player Of The Week Award
Goalkeeper Leads Cal To 2 Key Results
Senior goalkeeper
Teagan Wy of the California women's team earned her fourth ACC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season, as announced by the conference Tuesday. She is the first four-time winner in at least 15 years and is the only player to win multiple times this season.
Wy led the Golden Bears to two key results on the road last week as they head down the final stretch of the season. With a postseason berth on the line, Wy earned her conference-best eighth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Miami on Thursday, before helping Cal to yet another top-10 result Sunday tying No. 7 Florida State 2-2.
The senior recorded five saves on 15 shots faced against the Hurricanes. Wy kept the Seminoles out of the net for the first 45 minutes of the match and then after allowing two quick goals in the second half shut down the nation's seventh-ranked team, which allowed the Bears to make another late-game comeback. She recorded six saves in that contest and faced 20 shots, 16 of which came in the second period.
The Rancho Santa Margarita native leads the ACC with 79 total saves, ranks second with a 4.39 saves per game average, and is third with a .832 save percentage. Her 0.89 goals-against average and save percentage lines are the best of her career since taking over as the everyday starter between the posts in 2023.
