Postseason On The Line In Regular-Season Finale

After having last week off the California women's soccer team is set to host No. 2 Stanford on Thursday in its regular season finale at Edwards Stadium with postseason implications on the line.

The Cardinal (14-1-1, 8-0-1 ACC) comes into Thursday's match as the hottest team in the country, boasting an eight-match win streak, and has its sights set on an ACC regular-season conference title. The ACC Championship Picture
Cal is currently on the outside looking in of the six-team ACC Championship, sitting in seventh place with 16 points in the ACC standings. Just above the Bears is a three-way tie for fourth place between No. 6 Florida State, No. 7 Virginia, and No. 21 Louisville, which all have 17 points. One point below the Bears is a two-way tie for eighth place between Wake Forest and North Carolina, which are both receiving votes in the latest national poll. Cal will need to come away with a result this week to have a chance at its first ACC Championship berth. Even with a win over the second-ranked Cardinal, the Bears' berth is not guaranteed.

Wy Earns Third ACC Defensive Player Of The Week Award
Goalkeeper Teagan Wy earned her third ACC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season on Oct. 21. Wy led the Golden Bears to two key results on the road as they came down the final stretch of the season. With postseason implications on the line Wy earned her conference-best eighth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Miami before helping Cal to yet another top-10 result by tying No. 7 Florida State 2-2.

The senior recorded five saves on 15 shots faced against the Hurricanes. Wy kept the Seminoles out of the net for the first 45 minutes of the match and then after allowing two quick goals in the second half shut down the nation's seventh-ranked team, which allowed the Bears to make another late-game comeback. She recorded six saves in that contest and faced 20 shots, 16 of which came in the second period.

The Rancho Santa Margarita native ranks second in the ACC with 79 total saves, a 4.39 saves per game average, and a .832 save percentage. Her 0.89 goals-against average and save percentage lines are the best of her career since taking over as the everyday starter between the posts in 2023.

Spreading The Love
Cal's 24 goals this year have come off nine different boots. Fourteen total Bears have accounted for the team's 69 points, with all but seven goals being assisted on so far. Twenty one of the 24 goals have been scored by newcomers and Bears that missed all or most of last season with injuries.

200 Club
On Aug. 21, Cal head coach Neil McGuire achieved his 200th victory as the leader of the Golden Bears. The Bears' 3-2 win over San Francisco sealed the career milestone for McGuire, who is the program's all-time wins leader. His Cal record currently sits at 206-119-62 and he has 250 wins in his career
