DALLAS – The California men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to Southern Methodist in an ACC clash on Friday night at Washburne Stadium.
Â
Cal's record fell to 4-5-2 (1-3-1 ACC), while SMU improved to 5-2-3 (2-0-2).
Â
The Mustangs got a 28th-minute goal from Milton Lopez and a hat trick from Stephan Soghomonian, with the latter converting a penalty kick for his last goal.
Â
Cal goalkeeper
Connor Lambe got the start and made five saves in almost 80 minutes, with
Marco Brougher playing the last 10:09 in the Bears' net.
Â
"It's one of those games when we lost to a better team," Cal head coach
Leonard Griffin said. "They're a very good team. On a different night we might get a win against them. Unfortunately, tonight wasn't that night. One thing we can always rely on, though, is the character of the group and the guys doing everything in their power to work hard and have a positive bounce back next weekend at home."
Â
Cal next hosts Wake Forest in an ACC match on Oct. 11 at Edwards Stadium.
