Bears Host Annual Raising The B.A.R. Invitational
Cal Plays Charlotte Saturday 3 P.M. PT
This weekend, the California women's basketball team will host its fifth annual Raising The B.A.R. (basketball, activism, representation) Invitational. The Golden Bears (2-1) will face off against Charlotte (2-2) in the opening day of the tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion.
Â
Approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Cal's game, Harvard will take Oakland in the night's other matchup. The winners and losers of each game will then play each other on Sunday with the consolation game taking place at 5 p.m. PT and the championship game tipping off about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the consolation game.
Â
An all-tournament team and tournament MVP will be announced directly after the championship game.
Â
Cal head coach
Charmin Smith created the tournament to elevate the voices, stories and people in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging space, highlight the lack of diversity in women's basketball college coaching and spotlight Black female head coaches around the country. All three teams invited to the tournament each year are led by Black female head coaches.
Â
Saturday's game marks the first-ever matchup against the Charlotte 49ers, who have played two Power 4 teams (Auburn and LSU) in non-conference play. Under second-year head coach Tomekia Reed, the 49ers welcomed 11 newcomers to this year's team, which is led by leading scorer Princess Anderson (19.8 points per game) and rebounder Asianae Nicholson (11.2 rebounds per game).
Â
Saturday's game will be streamed on ACCNX with Dave Benz and Ashlee Jones on the call.

- Gisella Maul and Taylor Barnes both had career highs with eight rebounds each.

- Naya Ojukwu was clutch down the stretch scoring seven points in the last five minutes including a three-point play when the Bears were up just three points with just 1:07 left in the game.

Starting Five
- Barnes is the only freshman in the ACC to rank in the top five in the conference in total points, rebounds and assists among all freshmen (through Nov. 11).
- Twidale is having the best three-game stretch for rebounding in her career, grabbing 7-4-6 over the first three games of the season.
